New UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria is arguably the best fighter in the world and certainly MMA’s most electrifying talent. Topuria is associated with being a dominant puncher, which is a fair characterization, but also incomplete.
As I explain in this video, Topuria’s power wouldn’t be much good if he didn’t have the footwork to get him in position to land or the right timing to know when to throw. He hits with extraordinary force, but what really makes punching unforgiving is the delivery system built to execute it.
Additionally, you’ll see evidence Topuria did well to negate Oliveira’s wrestling, pass his guard and neutralize his attempts at leg entanglements. No fighter is without limits or weaknesses, but Topuria is comprehensively good.
If you watched my first attempt at breaking this down, some of this will appear redundant, but plenty of new details are added.
